Cuba currently has more than 300 master’s programs and is implementing doctoral programs in social sciences, humanities, mathematics, economics and in natural, technical, agricultural, biomedical and pedagogical sciences. Degrees in several subjects are being carried out in each of these areas.
Foreign universities may be interested in implementing master’s programs in their own countries but in coordination with their Cuban counterparts. If this is so, it is possible to arrange agreements between the interested institutions which would involve foreign and Cuban professors and which could, but not necessarily would, lead to “shared” degrees depending on the specific provisions of the agreements.
In other cases, the Cuban master’s degree programs are entirely carried out by Cuban institutions in other countries. Professors would then go to the students´ country to offer the different courses, organize workshops or seminars and act as advisers for the research. Requirements for graduation are the same as for Cuban students.

On the other hand, different Spanish universities are carrying out 19 Doctoral Programs in Cuba since 1998. Another two have recently ended. The total enrollment in these programs is of 451 students, of which 143 have already defended their doctoral dissertation, with 22 of them following the rules and requirements established by the legislation of the Republic of Cuba concerning academic degrees.
